Meet the dogs at the heart of our program. Each brings their own personality, strengths, and qualities to Uwharrie GSP, reflecting the versatility, intelligence, and companionship we love about the German Shorthaired Pointer.
Sawyer holds a special place in our family as our very first GSP. We brought him home as a puppy in 2019, long before Uwharrie GSP was ever imagined. Calm, active, and incredibly well-mannered, Sawyer is a trained hunting dog who enjoys deer hunting alongside Wesley. When he's not working, you'll find him running outside, playing in the water or rain, and more often than not.... with his tongue hanging happily out the side of his mouth. His fun personality, loyalty, and eagerness to listen make him an incredible dog to have by our side.
Remi is active, confident, endlessly curious, and always ready to explore. She came to us after her previous owner was no longer able to care for her, and she quickly became and important part of our family. She's incredibly observant and has quite the natural instinct for finding things outdoors....sometimes bringing home a few more "discoveries" than we'd prefer! Despite her advernturous side, she's also a sweetheart who has no problem stealing the little dogs' toys for herself. Remi is a devoted mother who takes exceptional care of her puppies and naturally carries herself as the strong female leader of our pack. As our second GSP, she'll always hold a particularly special place in our story.
Hershey came into our lives unexpectedly after we learned she needed a better home. Her early experiences made adjusting to a new life challenging at first, but watching her true personality emerge has been incredibly rewarding. Today, Hershey is energetic, goofy, floppy, affectionate, and always operating at about a level 10! She loves cuddles, jumping, and especially treats...so much that she's been known to steal on straight from another dog's mouth. Hershey wasn't part of our original plan, but that's exactly what makes her story so special.
Gracie came to us alongside Josie and brought a completely different personality, and look, to our GSP family. As our only black-and-white GSP, she immediately stands out from the pack. We're told that she preciously bird hunted with her former owner, and her instincts certainly show. She loves birds, digging, exploring, and searching the ground for moles and anything else that catches her attention. Gracie is generally one of our calmer dogs and isn't always on the go, but when there's something worth investigating, she's ready for the adventure.
If Josie had her way, life would be mostly cuddles and sunshine. She's an incredibly sweet, affectionate girl who loves being close to her people and is always ready to sit pretty for a picture. While she enjoys digging and exploring with the rest of the pack, she's just as happy relaxing in the sun and soaking up attention. With her mostly white coat and just a few beautiful brown patches, Josie has a look all her own, but it's her gently, loving personality that truly makes her special. She and Gracie came into our family together, and Josie has been our little sweetheart ever since.
Wren is especially close to our hearts because she was born right here at Uwharrie GSP. We watched her grow from a tiny puppy into the calm, gentle girl she is today, and knew she was one we wanted to keep as part of our family and future. Wren is naturally shy and perfectly content spending much of her time relaxing, but bring out a tennis ball and you'll see a completely different side of her! The moment that ball is thrown, she's ready to go. Having a dog we've raised from birth makes Wren's place in our program particularly meaningful and gives us the opportunity to continue building thoughtfully on the qualities we value in our dogs.
